Video: Pure Michigan = Pure Detroit

Wow, look -- skyscrapers and a riverboat. Who knew?

The governor's tourism people in Lansing give downtown Detroit the Pure Michigan treatment of soft music and sun-splashed scenes in their latest half-minute ad -- a timely message that the city still is open, operating and appealing.

It's aimed at attracting visitors coming for the "first time or first time in a long time," and shows the skyline (by day and by night), Corktown, RiverWalk, DIA, Opera House, Eastern Market, Comerica Park and river rowing at the Belle Isle bridge. Viewers also see quick shots of a jazz club, The Sugar House bar and another seemingly obligatory Michigan Avenue business.

"No matter how long it's been," the announcer says in a lullaby-like voice, "there's nothing like experiencing the unmistakable sounds, the memorable sights and the limitless energy of a city called Detroit."
