Zero Tolerance For Sanity: Student Refused To Give Up Note, Is Expelled For Assault
Kyle Thompson was a 14-year-old student at Farmington Hills Harrison High School until a teacher tried to take a note away from him and, like pretty much every kid caught passing notes since the beginning of time, Thompson tried to hold onto the thing. So, now he's been expelled from not just Harrison, but every public high school in Michigan. Because zero tolerance.
Refusing to give up that piece of paper, a list of friends Thompson wanted to hit during football, is apparently considered assault. Witnesses claim they didn't see it that way.
Thompson acknowledges his behavior was out-of-line, but says the punishment didn't match the infraction. The ACLU agrees and has taken up his cause.
