A Sweaty Charles Pugh Talks (Again) About His Kickin’ Bod, In Case You Were Wondering

June 06, 2012, 5:23 PM

Hey you lazy lardasses sitting at a DDOT bus stop, chowing down Twinkies, and waiting for a #16 that probably won’t ever arrive, what’s your problem?

You should totally do like City Council President Charles Pugh! He lost weight and toned his body thanks to a personal trainer—a luxury you can afford when you’re single, make $70+K/year plus a take home car, and let you condo lapse into foreclosure.

Pugh says, in a Facebook video, that he will soon release his own full-length fitness video with all kind of weight loss secrets.

By weight loss secrets, he probably means the totally-not-secret-at-all truth about weight loss: You have to consume fewer calories than your body burns over a long period of time. It’s simple arithmetic, but every time some halfway famous person gets healthy they have to share their fitness "secrets" like they suddenly reinvented the wheel.

An extreme close-up of a very sweaty Pugh also explains that he no longer eats all manner of delicious breads like biscuits, rolls, muffins, etc.

Hey, that’s fantastic.

It’s pretty amazing that Pugh was able to make the significant time investment required to get into peak physical shape given the city’s fiscal crisis. You’d think the whole figure out how to save Detroit would fill one’s day, but you know, Charles Pugh’s work/life balance is important. For all of us.

Pugh claims he’s lost 60 pounds, which isn’t exactly something you can accomplish with a couple treadmill sessions a week.

Wouldn't you love to have the luxury of time and personal resources to get into that kind of shape? To be able to always have the time for a decent meal instead of grabbing some fast food crap on the run? I know I would. It must be nice to be Charles Pugh.

So, Detroiters, don’t hate on Pugh for getting into shape. It’s not his fault you’re drowning your sorrows in Faygo and Slows mac-and-cheese because you’re paying the equivalent of a 97-mill property tax to a city that can’t keep the streetlights on.

Oh, wait. It kind of is! -- JTW
