City Seeking Proposals to Redevelop the Herman Kiefer Complex in Detroit

March 10, 2014, 2:01 PM

It had  been up and running since 1893 -- that is until late last year when the city shut down the Herman Kiefer Complex. The complex housed the  city's health and wellness department and the department of vital records, which includes birth certificates.

Now, the city is seeking proposals to redevelop the site at Claremont and the Lodge Expressway that was designed by architect Albert Kahn.

The  525,937 square feet of floor space sits on 17.9 acres of city-owned land.

A site walkthrough at the site will take place on Tuesday, March 25 at 9:30 AM to 12 PM, beginning at the main building entrance at 1151 Taylor Street.

A pre-bid meeting will be held the same day between 2-4 p.m.  at the offices of Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, 500 Griswold Street, Suite 2200, Detroit.

Proposals must be submitted by April 11 at 3 p.m.  --- Allan Lengel
