Home-Invasion Suspect Shot And Killed In North Rosedale

April 17, 2014, 7:06 AM

The suspected getaway driver in a home invasion was shot to death early Thursday during a wild gun battle in Detroit's upscale North Rosedale Park neighborhood.

The suspect, who tried to flee in an SUV, crashed into the side of a neighbor's house in the 15000 block of Glastonbury. A resident inside that house suffered minor injuries.

Police said the incident began when two men entered a home on Glastonbury. At least one of the people inside the home was armed, and shot at the intruders, who returned fire. The two suspects fled.

Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody told the Detroit News the third suspect, a getaway driver, was shot inside a vehicle sitting outside the home. He drove in reverse across the median, plowed over a stop sign and crashed into the other house.

Another neighbor told Roop Raj of Fox 2 she was awakened by multiple gunshots around 2 a.m.

"It was very, very scary," she said, adding police responded quickly.

The shooting was the latest in a string of several recent incidents in which Detroiters have shot intruders who had broken into their homes.
