Guns and a Hammer and A Jewelry Store Heist in West Bloomfield

April 23, 2014, 6:47 AM

Armed robberies certainly are not common place at a strip mall on Orchard Lake Road in West Bloomfield that includes restaurants and a kosher butcher shop.

But on Tuesday evening, robbers made off with thousands of dollars in jewelry from Tapper's Diamond and Fine Jewelry, the Freep reports.

The three thieves carried guns and even a hammer into the store at 6337 Orchard Lake Rd., Lt. Curt Lawson, of the West Bloomfield Police, tells the Freep.

WXYZ reports the heist may be related to another in Plainfield Township, which also occurred on Tuesday. Four armed men fled a Paul Medawar Jewelry store there when one suspect was shot by the owner.

Police are looking for a dark-colored Chrysler Town and Country minivan, the suspected getaway car. The thieves were dressed in all black, with bandanas covering their faces, and one wore a beard.   -- Danny Fenster
