Authorities think they may have killed al Qaeda's chief bomb maker believed to be responsible for making explosives for the Detroit "Underwear Bomber" Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.

CNN reports that U.S. forces working with Yemini commandos targeted suspected al Qaeda terrorists in the Arabian Peninsula on Sunday.

CNN reports that at least 65 people were killed, and that group may have included al Qaeda's chief bomb maker Ibrahim al-Asiri.

CNN reports that he wasn't the target of the attack, but authorities are believed to be testing for DNA to confirm the identity of al-Asiri.

Abdulmutallab.had an explosive device in his underwear while flying on Northwest Airlines Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit Christmas Day, 2009.

Abdulmutallab, 27,  is serving a life sentence and is currently housed in the federal maximum-security prison in Florence, Colo.  -- Allan Lengel
