Sterling Heights Police Chief Denies Intervening in Brother's Arrest

July 21, 2014, 9:14 AM

Sterling Heights Police Chief Mike Reese's brother, a high-ranking command officer, was arrested late last week in Shelby Township and charged with drunken driving.

Now, the chief is battling rumors that he tried intervening in an attempt to prevent the arrest, Mitch Hotts of the Macomb Daily reports.

Reese denied interfering, and also dismissed rumors that the he was being suspended or was going to resign for intervening.

“Those are outright lies by a faction, a group of people who want to take advantage of an unfortunate situation,” Reese told the Macomb Daily. “Those rumors are bogus information, just wishful thinking on some people’s minds.”

Sterling Heights spokesman Steve Guitar confirmed no action has been taken against the chief, the paper reported.

The paper reported that the chief's brother, Detective Lt. Kevin Reese, faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after his involvement in a one-car accident.
