One Of The Exotic Dogs That Killed Jogger Had Mauled A Person Before

July 25, 2014, 7:01 AM

A Livonia man died Wednesday evening after he was attacked by a pair of exotic Cane Corso dogs as he jogged along a dirt road in rural Metamora Township.

Craig Sytsma, 46, worked for Eltro Services in nearby Oxford.

Cane Corsos are an Italian mastiff-type breed that are bred to serve as watchdogs and hunt wild boar.

The Free Press reports one of the dogs was involved in at least one prior attack, according to a woman who said she sued the owners after being bitten two years ago.

No decision has been made on criminal charges, but the Lapeer County Prosecutor’s Office is involved, and the owner has retained an attorney. The dogs have been quarantined.
