Meijer Expands Detroit Footprint; Buys Naming Rights to Old Tiger Stadium Site

Meijer continues to shore up its presence in Detroit.

The latest: The Michigan-based retailer Meijer Inc., which has two stores in the city, will sponsor the playing field at a new development at the old Tiger Stadium site at Michigan and Trumbull, The Detroit News reports. 

Meijer will pay the Detroit Police Athletic League $750,000 for at least five years of naming rights for "Willie Horton Field of Dreams, presented by Meijer."

The site, currently under construction, will serve as a home to a youth sports facility and Detroit Police Athletic League headquarters.

The cjhain opened a supercenter at Woodward and 8 Mile in 2013 and another Detroit store two years later at the former Redford High site on the west side..
