Oakland Mall and chain stores in Troy are popular destination for shoplifters, a two-day dragnet shows.
State troopers and city police officers collared 10 people now facing 27 retail crime charges, WWJ reports. Suspects include a 16-year-old Warren boy and a 67-year-old Detroit woman.
The agencies partnered for the [Jan. 28-29] operation, recognizing that retail fraud suspects are often part of larger, organized crime rings that impact multiple jurisdictions.
Stores involved are at the mall on 14 Mile Road, on John R Road and on Coolidge Road. They are Kohl’s, Home Depot, Macy's, Victoria’s Secret, Dick’s Sporting Goods, JC Penney and Bath and Body Works.

A 23-year-old Detroit man and 19-year-old Eastpointe woman went on a shoplifting date to two Home Depots. He was caught with $180 worth of loot and she had $120 in unpaid stuff. In their vehicle was $850 worth of merchandise grabbed from another branch.

The 67-year-old Detroiter tried to drive away from officers after snatching $190 worth of merchandise at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Oakland Mall. A patrol car blocked her. before she exited the store and entered a car. Officers attempted to stop the woman but she drove away, only coming to a stop when a patrol vehicle blocked her car. "A pair garden sheers, believed to have been used to remove security tags, were found in the woman’s purse," the radio station says.

Warren parents picked up the teen, accused of taking $180 worth of Nike gear from Macy's.

A 20-year-old Lathrup Village man put on Nike and Polo clothes priced at $204 in a Macy's dressing room and headed for the parking lot.
