Suspect meeting Detroit men on dating apps, robbing them at gunpoint

February 28, 2020, 8:31 AM

Detroit police are looking for a suspect who has allegedly robbed at gunpoint five men he met through dating apps over the past two months.

All of the incidents occurred on the west side, WXYZ reports. Victims were 19-36 years old.

  • During the meet-up, the suspect approaches on foot and takes wallets, authorities said. The suspect then makes the victim drive to an ATM and withdraw money.

  • After getting cash, the suspect makes the victim drive back to where they met and he flees on foot. Detroit police believe the same person is responsible in several of these armed robberies.

Local media did not specify what dating apps were used. Two recent high-profile killings in Detroit and elsewhere in Michigan involved dating apps.
