Detroit Police James Craig, recovering at home from COVID-19, says someone started a rumor of his death that spread on social media.

“I was dead, by all accounts," the chief tells Charlie LeDuff on the "No BS Newshour" podcast. "Somebody thought it was cute to just start an unnecessary rumor."

He said he got a call from hip-hop artist Kash Doll, who told him she was dispelling the wrongness spreading on Snapchat.

Craig says he's starting to feel stonger and his appetite is returning.

Craig also told LeDuff officers now are discouraged from engaging with people involved in minor misdeanors. The guidance is to avoid unnecessary contact with citizens during the coronvirus crisis.

The chief added that officers from special investigative units now are in patrol cars to help fill voids left by department members who have the virus or are qurantined.
