Every month since launching our Deadline Detroit membership program we've awarded prizes, which include gift cards to restaurants and Starbucks and tickets to the Pistons and Red Wings.

Obviously, the world has changed.

So, instead of giving out prizes the past two months, Deadline Detroit's staff has put together some money from their pockets to buy lunch for first responders. We figured our members would appreciate the gesture.

Last month, we sprung for lunch for 20 Detroit Fire Department workers at the Apparatus Division in Eastern Market.

This Friday, we're springing for lunch for firefighters and EMTs at the Detroit Fire Department Engine 17 in  Midtown. We're catering through Mootz Pizzeria on Library Street in downtown Detroit, which serves New York-style pizza.

We're grateful for all the essential workers, from the first responders to health care workers to grocery store employees and delivery people.

We're also grateful for our readers and those who have joined our membership program to help fund the journalism we do daily. For $3 a month, you help us deliver the news daily at a critical time like this.
