Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Friday that hair salons, barber shops and other personal service businesses can reopennext Wednesday in northern Michigan. The rest of the state can reopen on June 15.

The announcement is welcome news to those who have been cutting their own hair or watching it grow far beyond the normal length. And let's not forget some of those gray roots that have been surfacing.

Barbers and stylists had also voiced dismay over the closure.

Additionally, movie theaters and gyms also can open on Wednesday in northern Michigan with safety precautions.

The announcement comes four days after Whitmer lifted a stay-home order and gave the OK for restaurants to open June 8 at half-capacity. Retail shops were allowed to begin operating on Thursday without restrictions.
