Covid cases are on the rise in Michigan and elsewhere, but that doesn't stop folks from mingling Friday at the annual Jobbie Nooner floating party in Lake St. Clair.

“I doubt there will be much social distancing,” Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham, who will have several craft on site, tells The Detroit News.  “Everyone is just out for a good time and it’s a peaceful event. And since many of them are departing from Macomb County docks, we are out there to make sure they get to their destination safely and return."

The boats dock in Gull Island which is actually in St. Clair County.

"There is really no way we would be able to enforce something like that out on the water," says St. Clair County Sheriff's deputy, Sgt. Marty Stoyan."It is an unsanctioned event and we hope that people will act responsibly."

On Thursday, Michigan reported 353 new confirmed Covid cases and 19 additional deaths. The state has recorded 5,887 pandemic fatalities.
