Speed was said to be a factor in the crash.

WXYZ Detroit reports:

(A) vehicle occupied by the six students was traveling at a high rate of speed.

At some point, the driver lost control and rolled the vehicle over. As they lost control, police say they went into a wooded area, struck a tree and the vehicle caught fire.

Two of the teens died after being ejected from the vehicle. Two are in critical condition and two have minor injuries.

All six were students at Oak Park High School. A statement on the district's Facebook page says school officials are "honoring the parents' request to keep specific details confidential, therefore we are waiting to release the names of the students involved and the severity of their injuries."
