Ford Motor Co. said Monday it was suspending its political action committee donations to politicians while it reviews events surrounding the 2020 presidential election and the Capitol riot, the Detroit Free Press reports.
“Events over the past year have underscored the need for a broader, ongoing discussion about other relevant considerations when it comes to our employee PAC," said Rachel McCleery, director of government relations for manufacturing policy.
"In order to give these important discussions the time and reflection they deserve, the Ford PAC will be suspending new contributions for now," she added. "Ford condemns the violent actions that happened this week, which contradict the ideals of a free and fair election and a peaceful transition of power."
Rocket Holdings, part of Dan Gilbert's network in Detroit, also is "suspending all political giving as we contemplate the role corporations play in the political process."
Meanwhile, Midland-based Dow announced a more precise donation halt, targeting members of Congress -- including Reps. Lisa McClain, Jack Bergman and Tim Walberg of Michigan -- who voted last week against certifying the election. A statement says:
Dow is immediately suspending all corporate and employee political action committee (PAC) contributions to any member of Congress who voted to object to the certification of the presidential election. This suspension will remain in place for a period of one election cycle (two years for House members; up to six years for Senators), which specifically includes contributions to the candidate’s reelection committee and their affiliated PACs.

Other major U.S. corporations take similar action. Blue Cross Blue Shield, Marriott, Coca-Cola, CitiBank, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are among big givers suspending donations to lawmakers who voted against accepting the electoral votes. Facebook and Airbnb also announced contribution cutoffs.
