Nearly 600,000 in Michigan have both Covid shots; 1.2 million have 1st dose

More than two months into the vaccination fight against coronavirus, the state says 14.6% of Michiganians over 16 got at least one shot in the arm.

Almost 600,000 residents are fully vaccinated and 1.2 million are halfway there, Friday afternoon's data update shows.

Just over 604,000 doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been given through Thursday in the three-county Detroit area, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. (It doesn't give regional breakdowns of first and second doses.)

Here are local details:

  • Detroit: 52,452 doses given (60,064, according to the city health department)

  • Wayne: 181,596 doses

  • Oakland: 236,763 doses 

  • Macomb: 133,251 doses

Statewide, the age group receiving the most shots so far is between 65 and 74 -- with 333,762 vaccines administered to 32.2% of people in those ages. Residents aged 75 and above are next with 277,776 recipients (38.2%).

Other age groups:

  • 50 - 64: 227,982 (11.2% of that group)

  • 40 - 49: 133,793 (11.3%)

  • 30 - 39: 121,034 (10%)

  • 20 - 29: 85,700 (6.2%)

  • 16 - 19: 5,334 (1%)
