Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, whose 2018 campaign mantra was "Fix the Damn Roads," will be one of two governors to testify Wednesday at a U.S. Senate committee hearing on infrastructure, Reuters news service reports.
Whitmer is scheduled to appear with Republican Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan at a Senate Environment and Public Works hearing with a mouthful topic: “Building Back Better: Investing in Transportation while Addressing Climate Change, Improving Equity, and Fostering Economic Growth and Innovation.”

Hogan as chair of the National Governors Association launched a national initiative focused on fixing U.S. infrastructure and released a report noting “Americans have lost countless hours of their lives in soul-crushing traffic.”
President Joe Biden is expected to push Congress to invest heavily in infrastructure.
Whitmer has had diffculty getting the Republican-controlled state legislature to address decaying roads. She bypasses lawmakers with a $3.5-billion road bonding program, the Detroit Free Press notes.
