Detroit Digest: The Magic of Yellow Light Coffee & Donuts and its Tasty Biscuit Sandwiches

The hot chicken sandwich

In April last year, when the pandemic was already looking ferocious, the owners of the new Yellow Light Coffee & Donuts rolled the dice and opened at 14447 E. Jefferson Ave. in the Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood on Detroit's east side.

Thankfully, it has a drive-thru. The dining area has yet to open.

The joint is a creation of Green Dot Stables and Johnny Noodle King co-owners Jacques and Christine Driscoll, along with Niko Dimitrijevic.

At first, because of Covid, they just served bags of coffee to-go. Shortly after, they opend for limited hours for coffee and bean orders and made donuts on the weekend. Some of the out-of-the-orindary donuts include brown butter plaintain, mint chocolate chip, hibiscus lime and cherry almond.

The tasty biscuit sandwich offerings include chicken sausage, fried chicken with maple, hot chicken with pickles, egg and cheddar and soysage with egg and sauce. You can add an egg or cheese to any sandwich.

Detroit Digest host Carlos Parisi worked his way through several donuts and biscuit sandwiches the other day. Watch the video below.
