Two men broke into a closed hair salon on Main Street in downtown Royal Oak early Monday and made off with an ATM cash dispenser.
The store video captured the men breaking the front door windows of Alex Emilio Salon with a rock around 2:35 a.m. and wrestling briefly with the ATM that was bolted to the ground before carrying it away. In all, it took about 30 seconds to break in and take off.
Alex Lekocaj, co-owner of the unisex shop, said a cleaning lady discovered the break-in and notified his business partner, Emilio Giglio, who called police.
"The Coronavirus isn't enough to slow your business down, you've got to deal with this," Lekocaj told Deadline Detroit.
Lekocaj said he's been in business on Main Street for 20 years without a problem like this.
Lt. Al Carter of the Royal Police Department said the matter is under investigation and "we're coordinating with other jurisdictions" that have had similar thefts involving ATMs.
Anyone with information about the crime should contact the Royal Oak Police at (248) 246-3500.
