One governor's face is on a pillow: Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, of course

Big Gretch has become such a national pop culture phenom that her face now is plastered on polyester throw pillows.

The odd novelty featuring "America's favorite governor" is pitched as a way to "add a splash of Pure Michigan to your home."

It's the brainchild of Erick Sanchez, a 34-year-old public relations executive and political activist in New Orleans. He's a former press secretary to Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, and worked for two presidential candidates last year -- Ryan and Andrew Yang.

Sanchez, who calls himself a "pillow inventor" in a media release, enlisted Los Angeles illustrator Jonathan Chang to design the third item in his version of Elf on the Shelf.

The first shows Tony Fauci ("Fauch on the Couch"), the second shows Bernie Sanders in mittens at Januray's presidential inauguration ("Sanders on Your Sofa") and the newest is marketed as "Gretch on the Bench." Each costs $40.

Each has a pithy quote on the rear. The infectious disease specialists's says "It is what it is," quoting his April 11 reply on CNN when Jake Tapper asked if quicker White House action could have reduced last year's Covid toll.

The Whitmer pillow's flip side (above) shows a quip she made before addressing the Democratic National Convention last August, when she used a line from comedian Kevin Hart and just mouthed the expletive during a sound check.

[Hat tip to Jonathan Oosting of Bridge Michigan for tweeting about the new pillow Friday morning.]
