For more than a year, we've seen restraurants in downtown Detroit shut in the midst of the pandemic. It's unclear if some will reopen.

So, it's heartening to see this: Milk & Froth, a popular ice cream truck, opened a shop on Monday in the Buhl Building, one of Dan Gilbert's properties at 535 Griswold St. in downtown Detroit.

Alexis Matteson and Deion Cao launched their truck business a few summers ago and served natural ice cream made from scratch. Popular flavors include butter pecan and ground coffee with coconut cream.

"Through relentless trial and experimentation, we’re proud to be serving some of the best ice creams in the country," the shop's website says. "Everything we serve is made from scratch in our production kitchen in Eastern Market. Our ice cream is free of pre-manufactured mixes, artificial flavors and colors, and chemical stabilizers that have become ubiquitous in the ice cream industry."

It's open Monday-Thursday, noon-9 p.m. and Friday-Sunday, 1-10 p.m.

The truck still operates in Capitol Park from Wednesday through Friday and at Campus Martius each weekend.

We first saw this story on Eater Detroit.
