Detroit City Councilman Andre Spivey expects to be charged by federal authorities with bribery of a public official, his attorney tells WXYZ's Ross Jones.

Attorney Elliott Hall said his client has cooperated with the U.S. Attorney’s office “for well over a year now to try to resolve this issue” and was surprised to learn that an indictment is forthcoming. Spivey says he did nothing wrong.

“We’re dealing with contributions people made to him that they consider to be a bribe,” Hall tells WXYZ. "But it has nothing to do ... with any kind of vote or his actions as a public official.”

The Detroit News reports that Hall said he expects the indictment to charge that Spivey allegedly took a  a $1,000 bribe from an undercover informant. Halls tell Deadline Detroit says the exchange took place in 2018, and he expects the indictment to come down late Tuesday afternoon.

As of 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Hall said he had not seen any charges filed.

Spivey isn't running for a fourth term. He has represented District 4 on the east side since 2010.
