William Hartmann, one of two Wayne County Board of Canvassers members who initially refused to certify the November 2020 election here, is hospitalized with Covid, social media reports.

Hartmann has been on a ventilator in the ICU at an unnamed hospital for nearly two weeks. On Nov. 17, his sister reported on Hartmann's Facebook page that her brother had been on the breathing machine for six days.
A conservative Republican and Trump supporter, Hartmann joined fellow GOP representative Monica Palmer in voting not to certify the 2020 election. Although the two later reversed themselves, they tried to rescind their certification votes, but were unable to under the law. The intial vote made national news.
Hartmann posted, early in the pandemic, that he'd asked his doctor about Covid, and had been told it was "a virus like any other virus, nothing to be concerned about." It's unclear what his vaccination status is, but his news feed is studded with skepticism about the virus and vaccination.
Steve Neavling, writing in Metro Times, found "a recent Facebook post (where) he falsely suggested it was a violation of his First and Fifth Amendment rights to be forced to divulge his vaccination status."
