A shooting report sent Oakland deputies Monday afternoon to a Lake Orion parking lot six miles south of last week's high school mass shooting.

This time, one man was wounded in a drug-debt dispute outside a Beaumont Medical Center branch, the sheriff's department says. The 20-year-old victim was "shot in a vehicle in the parking lot while engaged in a transaction to pay a debt for marijuana," according to a statement quoted by The Detroit News and other media.

"The suspect (known to the victim) pulled out a black semi-auto handgun and demanded all of the victim's money. A struggle ensued in the vehicle and the suspect shot the victim in the right knee. ...

"The suspect fled in a car with two others. The victim was rushed to a hospital for an injury that is not believed to be life-threatening."

Investigators identified a suspect, the department adds, and were searching for him.

Sheriff Michael Bouchard posts on social media that he "was nearby and arrived on scene quickly and joined our team searching the building for the assailant."

The latest handgun crime in North Oakland County follows "one of the worst weeks we could imagine for our community," he says, adding:

"I was so proud to work with my deputies, who had tragically been doing room-to-room searches in the same way at the [Oxford] school less than a week ago. They once again stacked up and did not hesitate to go in and look for danger."
