Listen to Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1963 Speech in Detroit

To commemoriate MLK Day, we post the "Walk to Freedom" speech by civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. in Detroit on June 23, 1963.

In delivering his speech, he gives a shout-out to "good friend" Rev. C.L. Franklin, Aretha Franklin's father.

King was killed in Memphis on April 4, 1968 at age 39.
