The number of Michigan adults being treated in hospitals for Covid declined Friday for a second time this week.
Another positive data point: In six Southeast Michigan counties that include Metro Detroit, hospitalized adults have decreased since Jan. 12 in the middle of last week.
The statewide figure for adults getting hospital care for confirmed or suspected coronavirus was 4,348 on Friday morning, nearly 300 fewer than the state health department reported Wednesday (a 6% drop). Pediatric patients rose by two to 129 after declining by 13 two days earlier.
Hospitals in the Detroit area and three adjacent counties have 2,377 adults with pandemic diagnoses or symptoms, 271 fewer than Wednesday (a 10% reduction). Pediatric cases rose by three to 78, a slight turnabout after a drop of 20 children and adolescents in the midweek data.
Michigan's Department of Health and Human Services also shows this week's second dip in adult Covid patients in intensive care units -- down 69 statewide and 28 regionally* in the past two days.
Meanwhile, the state reported an average of 16,776 Covid cases per day for Thursday and Friday and 210 deaths during that two-day stretch. The average of daily cases represents a slight decline.
