Miracle Jamerson, 21, died in a car crash on Jan. 3, 2020. She was a passenger in a blue Saturn Aura driven by Lonell Dixon, a drunk driver with a suspended license, who blew a red light and crashed into an SUV in Detroit. Besides the death, four people were injured, including the driver.

But WXYZ's Ross Jones reports that while the drunk driver was mainly to blame, police appeared to play a role by initiating a questionable, high-speed chase without sirens and lights around 8 Mile and Telegraph. It isn't clear why they began following the car in the first place, he notes.

Two years and two months since Jamerson's death, her family says Detroit Police never shared their officers' role, Jones reports. They learned the details from him.

“I asked these questions for years and no one would come forward with this information,” said Jamerson’s sister, Domonique Johnson. “You’re the only person who answered our question, who came with information.”

The matter is under internal investigation by police, the investigative reporter adds. The drunk driver, Lonell Dixon, 24, is in a Muskegon Heights state prison, serving time for manslaughter and driving with a suspended license, according to the Department of Corrections. His soonest parole date is 2030.
