Jon Jordan says he'll provide "inspiration, creative formulas, wardrobe planning, and retail contacts."
WDIV wants its on-air talent to take it up a notch when it comes to fashion and image.
Local 4 Style Editor Jon Jordan, a makeup artist and wardrobe consultant, has sent a memo to staff directing them to schedule a one-on-one "image consultation session." The memo was published on the website FTVLive, and three people confirmed its authenticity Sunday for Deadline Detroit.
"During the session I'll introduce our Image Guide to make all of this clear and easy to understand -- and provide you with inspiration, creative formulas, wardrobe planning, and retail contacts to help facilitate your needs," the memo says.
The session will include reviewing "all on-air wardrobe and accessories -- makeup and hair products included. It will require a minimum of two hours, which will be counted as part of your workday schedule."
As part of the session, workers have the option of bringing their on-air clothes and accessories to the studio, or a review can be conducted at home "if you determine it would be easier to accomplish."
"I think they are right to be unhappy that a lot of their people just don’t dress appropriately," one industry insider familiar with the memo tells Deadline Detroit. "Sleeveless dresses in the winter, suit combinations that don’t match. They have got to be a little bit more artful (about the wording in the memo).
"Jon Jordan, who is their local consultant, is very good and will be a big help. I applaud the station for wanting their people to look more professional.
"Huel Perkins, who just retired from WJBK Fox 2 was always a great dresser; Devin Scillian is a great dresser. Carmen Harlan dressed well in her day, as did Diana Lewis. Glenda Lewis at WXYZ always dresses smart and professional. Some common sense needs to come into play. I tip my cap to stations and broadcast groups who invest the time and money on appearance consultants."
The station hopes to finish all the consulting sessions by May 20, the memo says.
"The Image Consultations are a priority for all parties concerned," the memo says. "They require commitment and compliance. The result will be the beginning of an ongoing creative collaboration that elevates our brand and the credibility of our talent, while engaging and inspiring our viewers, readers, and followers."
News Director Kimberly Voet did not respond Sunday for comment to a message via LinkedIn. Jordan did not respond to an email for comment.
