Chad Livengood returns to Detroit News as politics editor, columnist

May 12, 2022, 7:06 AM

The Great Spring Media Reshuffle, which has seen Detroit journalists young and old(er) moving between local publications, saw another big move Wednesday night:

Livengood, a Central Michigan University graduate, worked at the News from 2012-16 before leaving to become a senior editor at Crain's. He covered state government from the Lansing bureau, and broke many stories, including the Todd Courser-Cindy Gamrat scandal in 2015. That story led Courser to file a defamation lawsuit against the newspaper, which was dismissed by a Washtenaw County judge. Courser and his attorney, endorsed GOP attorney general candidate Matt DePerno, were ordered to pay $20,000 to The News in sanctions afterward.
