Covid Variants and Hospitalizations Rise in Michigan

If you still wear a mask indoors, you've noticed most peope aren't. People are fatigued from Covid. They really don't want to hear about it any more.

But here we go.

The latest offshoots of the omicron variant, spreading in Europe and the U.S., are likely triggering an increase in cases and hospitalization in Michigan, Bridge Michigan reports, adding:

The proportion of all confirmed COVID-19 cases caused by the variants BA.4 and BA.5 is rising across the country and Michigan public health experts say they are increasing in the state as well.

Combined the two make up over 70 percent of new cases in the Midwest and the country, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Questions remains whether the new variants, especially BA.5, considered the most transmissible variant yet, will trigger a sustained increase.
