Charlie Roy, the 22-year-old son of the Cass Cafe owner, says he can't imagine life without the restaurant that attracted artists, musicians, students and locals for decades.

"But life goes on, that's just part of life," the University of Michigan student told Deadline Detroit on Sunday, the final day of operations at 4620 Cass Ave. after around 29 years. "The restaurant business is pretty tough as it is. And Covid hasn't helped anything."

Deadline Detroit's Myron Watkins II talked with Roy, his father Chuck Roy and customers who reminisced about the place. Some predicted it will make a comeback.
