In 2013, contractor Bobby Ferguson was convicted in a major bribery and bid-rigging scheme with pal, ex-Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. He got sentenced to 21 years in prison. Kilpatrick got 28 years.
In 2021, President Donald Trump commuted Kilpatrick's sentence after nearly eight years in prison. For equity sake, a few months later, the sentencing judge released Ferguson.
Now, Ferguson is back in the news.
BridgeDetroit reports that the city of Detroit canceled $1 million in demolition contracts awarded to a firm owned by Bobby Ferguson’s daughter, Bianca Bush.
The publication writes that the city was concerned Ferguson was connected to the company and profiting from the work. It said that his outstanding restitution in his criminal case disqualifies him from holding city contracts.
Federal authorities have alleged that Ferguson has hid income and assets to avoid paying $2.4 million he owes the city in restitution for his crimes.
The daughter’s company shares a business address with Ferguson’s company on Wyoming Street in Detroit, BridgeDetroit reports.
