Video: Berkley Festival Shuts Down Early Saturday Night After Street Brawl

May 12, 2024, 9:23 AM

Berkley hardly seems like a suburb where a street festival would spin out of control.

But that's what happened Saturday night in downtown Berkley after a group of young people start fighting in the streets at the festival, Berkley Days, prompting the city to shut down the festival early, around 7 p.m., Fox 2 reports.

“Unfortunately, yet again the annual tradition of Berkley Days has been disrupted by fights breaking out amongst participating youth. Berkley Days has been shut down for the remainder of Saturday evening," the Berkley Police Department posted on Facebook Saturday.

Later, the department posted new rules for Sunday:

In collaboration with the Berkley Days event organizers and to add clarity to today’s event details, please note the updated rules for the Sunday, May 12 event:
- Participants age 5-20 must purchase a wristband in addition to the $3 entry fee
- All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 or older
- ID will be required at the entrance gate
- Event will close at 4 PM instead of 6 PM
