Ex-Westland Police Sgt. Kevin Yudt, 42, of Grass Lake, faces charges of assault and ethnic intimidation stemming from an encounter with security at MGM Grand Detroit last year.

The incident on April 6, 202. began when security denied Yudt and a friend access to the casino floor because Yudt appeared to be intoxicated, according to a press release from the Michigan Attorney General's Office.

After being denied access, Yudt allegedly identified himself as a Westland police sergeant and told security, “I’ll be waiting for you when you come to Westland, and you will not survive," the press release said.

He also allegedly poked the security officers in the chest while shouting racial slurs. Yudt was fired from the Westland Police Department in May of 2023.

“My office takes allegations of ethnic intimidation and assault very seriously and will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent of the law,” said Nessel.

Yudt's next court appearance is set for July 9 at 9 a.m. in Wayne County Circuit Court.
