Say It Ain't So: Plan for a Target in Detroit Has Vanished

The closest Detroit has to a department store these days is Meijer. Kind of sad. Target would have been a nice addition.

Now comes news that plans for a Target at Woodward and Mack, in Detroit’s Midtown area, has been officially scratched, reports Crain's Detroit Business:

There had been a minor dispute over whether Target was indeed backing out back in January, but a notice of a lease termination dated April 30 was filed in late May in Wayne County, marking the final nail in the coffin of the proposed small-format store that was to occupy about 32,000 square feet at Woodward and Mack avenues.

Crain's noted that it's not clear if Target is considering other locations. 

Jonathan Holtzman’s Farmington Hills-based City Club Apartments LLC, which has proposed to develop the site with 350 apartments and the Target store, told Crain's: 

"We will announce at a future date a national retailer to replace Target, no further comments."
