Gov. Gretchen Whitmer conceded Wednesday that President Joe Biden had an awful performance at the debate, but insisted he's still up for doing the job.

"Yeah, he had a crappy debate, no question about it, and yet this is this decision between four years of Joe Biden continuing the work that he's gotten started this first term or Donald Trump," she said during an appearance on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert."

Whitmer, the national co-chair of the Biden campaign, said she recently met with Biden and other Democratic governors and she's convinced "he is up for the job for the next four years and I am working my tail off on his behalf to make sure that Michigan, we turn out and we turn out for Biden."

Whitmer is on a tour promoting her new book, "True Gretch: What I've Learned About Life, Leadership, and Everything in Between."

Whitmer was playful at times. When first asked about her reaction to the debate, she told Colbert, "I like your tie."

Colbert joked about the book, saying, "a lot of times a memoir from a politician is a trial balloon for a presidential run, and I'm just curious at what point in the last 12 days did you write this?"
