Michael Jackson-Bolanos
On Tuesday, on the fouth day of deliberations, the Detroit jury in the Samantha Woll murder trial failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
The jury will be off on Wednesday to accommodate a juror's child care issue, and return Thursday, the Detroit Free Press reports. The jury has twice sent notes to the judge saying it is deadlocked on certain counts, but the judge has instructed them to keep deliberating.
That is common practice among judges.
The Freep reports:
"Looks like you’re still in the same place, but have had some movement throughout the day," Van Houten said to the jurors Tuesday afternoon, noting they had also asked for another transcript.
Michael Jackson-Bolanos, 29, is charged with fatally stabbing Woll, 40, eight times in her Lafayette Park townhouse. Authorities believe Woll, president of a downtown synagogue, stumbled outside after the attack and died there.
Jackson-Bolanos testified during trial that he stumbled upon the body outside after Woll was already dead. The prosecution tried to paint him as a chronic liar and criminal who has no credibility.
