Since 1930, the city of Windsor has been operating a Windsor-to-Detroit tunnel bus. Now, it appears it will stop service later this year, the Windsor Star reports.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has decided to end the service that is costing the city $1.6 million a year, due to added benefits for employees. The bus fare is $10 each way.

The Windsor Star reports:

The mayor said he couldn’t justify subsidizing a service to Detroit when Canada is under “economic attack” from the U.S. He reiterated that position on Friday, stating Trump’s tariffs were “the tipping point” in his decision.

The council last week voted 6-5 to keep the service, but the mayor vetoed that vote, the Star reports. The council needed an 8-3 vote to prevail.

The mayor mentioned the city of Detroit has shown some interest in taking over the service, the Star reports.
