'Losing Sucks Whether it's One Game or Six,' Spencer Torkelson Says After Tigers Lose 6 in a Row

Riley Greene's solo home run in the 9th on Saturday night

First, the good news: The Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs both have the most wins in the major leagues, with 59. They're also in first place, 11 games ahead of second-place Minnesota and the Cleveland.

Now, the sobering news:

After entering the All-Star break on a four-game losing streak, the Tigers extended the streak to six games on Saturday night with a 4-1 loss to the Texas Rangers.

And if it weren’t for Riley Greene’s solo homer in the 9th inning,  the Tigers would have gone two games in a row without scoring a run.

First baseman Spencer Torkelson commented on the streak, saying, according to The Detroit News:

"It sucks. Losing sucks, whether it's one game or six. It sucks. But, you know, stay with it. It's a long season. We didn't want anything like this to happen, but we kind of know, in a long season, anything can happen."

"We're one swing away from turning things around and getting more rhythm as an offense. For the first 90 games, it seemed like we were getting that one hit every night. Not getting it now for a couple of games isn't the end of the world. But we need to start making better swings and have better pitch selection."

All of this comes after the Tigers had an embarrassing showing at the All-Star Game, going a collective 0-for-8. In addition to that, Tigers pitchers Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize gave up three runs in the game—accounting for half of the six runs the American League allowed.

Skubal is scheduled to pitch Sunday night against the Rangers in a nationally televised game.

The Tigers and the fans hope Skubal and company can dig out of the funk.
