Jamie Ding, a 2009 graduate of Grosse Pointe North High School, ended his 31-game winning streak on Jeopardy! Monday night, losing by a sizable margin to Greg Shahade, a chess player from Philadelphia.

As of Friday, he had won a total of $882,605. He came in second place Monday, earning another $3,000.

"It's been a wild ride but really fun," Ding told The Detroit News by phone after the episode. "People on the show told me that America's going to love getting to know you, and I guess they were right.

"And the love is mutual."

Ding will return for the season-ending Tournament of Champions, which is expected to air early next year.

On Monday, by the time they reached Final Jeopardy, Shahade had clinched the game with a lead of $32,600 to Ding’s $16,000.

All three contestants got the final question correct. Ding wagered $3,010 and finished in second with $19,010. Shahade risked $400 and ended up with $33,000.
