Sportscaster Brad Galli, who worked for WXYZ for 15 years, bid a final farewell to the station Friday during the 6 p.m. broadcast, choking back tears at times as he expressed deep gratitude.

"You've come to know me as Brad Galli from Channel 7," he said. "And that means the world to me. So today and for as long as I live, I am thankful for that. I'm thankful I get to stand here with my Channel 7 colleagues, working for you, and I've been grateful for this opportunity and responsibility every day of my decade and a half here at 7."

"The fact you choose to watch us nightly, that's why being the sports guy on 7 has been a badge of honor."

He said he'll soon let people know what he's doing next in Detroit.

"I'm 36 years old. I was hired here right out of college, and I learned from the legendary Don Shane, from day one, the local TV icon that made me want to get into this in the first place."

He went on to thank others he worked with over the years.

"I'll tell you that my parents always had Channel 7 on, and I wanted to work here forever. Back in 2009, I walked into this building applying for an internship. My girlfriend at the time, Claire, wished me luck."

He then turned to his family in the studio and said, "We've been married for more than 11 years and have two wonderful kids there. I feel very very lucky and I say thank you."

In 2011, he became a full-time sports reporter, and in 2015, he was promoted to sports anchor and eventually sports director as well.

Friends and colleagues celebrated his departure Friday night at Gran Castor restaurant and bar in Troy.
