What Should The Red Wings Call Their New Home?

May 21, 2012, 3:02 PM

The Red Wings have taken a big step in the agonizing path toward a new home.

Sports Business Journal, an authoritative magazine that covers off-field activities in professional sports, says the team has hired a team of architects to design the new Joe Louis Arena.

A team spokesman declined to confirm that report, but she didn't deny it, either.

What should the arena's new name be?

In the late 1970s, as the opening of the new riverfront arena approached, the name Joe Louis became its name basically because that was what Mayor Coleman Young wanted. Many hockey fans at the time expressed a desire for the arena to be named after hockey legend Gordie Howe.

Young grew up in Detroit when Louis was the heavyweight champ and a hero to city's black community.

So for whom  shall the new arena be named?
