Tthe old Harlequin Cafe.

The Harlequin Cafe was a little gem, tucked away, just off of Van Dyke and Jefferson on Agenes Street, on Detroit's east side.

In 2002, the Metro Times named it the "Most  Romantic Cafe," saying: "What could be more seductive than good food, wine and candlelight? Perhaps a jazz musician to lull you and your beloved. The Harlequin Café has it all. Sherman Sharpe, owner and chef of the West Village restaurant, is a virtual cupid, serving up delicious entrées such as salmon with ginger, garlic and lime or jumbo shrimp and pesto"

Unfortunately, it just couldn't stay in business and closed down several years ago.

Well, a new restaurant with 110 seats  has just opened in that very cool spot.

Nathan Skid of Crain's Detroit Business reports that the restaurant Craft Work serves dinner only.

Skid writes:

And if last weekend is any indication, the new Detroit restaurant is going to do just fine.

Executive Chef Matt Dalton said the restaurant had almost 700 covers between Friday and Saturday nights. Co-owner Hubert Yaro said people came from as far as Birmingham and West Bloomfield to check out the restaurant, located at 8047 Agnes St.

Skid writes that the menu includes baby back ribs, fried chicken with braised greens, mashed potatoes and honey, grilled trout with lemon, thyme and sweet corn and a French dip sandwich with horseradish, au jus and French fries.  -- Allan Lengel
