If you've never visited Iceland, here's a bargain.

Wow Air, which promotes itself as a low-cost transatlantic airline, began flying out of Metro Detroit Airport on Thursday.

It offers a one-way fare of $69 from Detroit to Iceland for travel in May, June, September and October this year. The offer is valid for 60 seats on each selected flight and must be booked with a return flight.

The cheap one-way flights also are offered in 12 other cities.

A ticket comes with little more than a seat, mini-tray table and the right to carry on an 22-pound bag.

Heavier carry-ons cost more, especially if not booked online with the ticket. Checked luggage sets fliers back a bit more, as do food, pre-assigned seats and those with extra leg room.

Tickets are nonrefundable if canceled and there's a charge to change the name so someone else can fly.

Wow, which began in 2011, connects 39 U.S. and European cities with the Icelandic capital, Reykjavik.

"We want to kick off the summer travel season by giving our customers some of the lowest prices available," says Skúli Mogensen, founder and CEO. "Over the past year we have seen a continued growth and a strong demand for affordable transatlantic airfare. We are confident we can further build upon this success in the future."
