Starting today, employees and owners of restaurants and bars in Detroit can get a free Covid-19 rapid test at the Detroit Health Department, 100 Mack, just east of Woodward, and get the results before they leave. The rapid testing also is available to Detroit salon and barber shop employees and independent contractors.

The testing is for employees at Detroit businesses only, with retesting available every two weeks. Appointments are required by calling (313) 251-4488 weekdays from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.

Tests are available Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The test is expected to take 30 minutes, with results within 15 minutes. Individuals who test negative will receive a sticker to display at work. Those testing positive can speak with a health professional.

In addition, individuals will receive two surgical masks, two pairs of gloves and a face shield.
