Sidney Powell, the wacky attorney devoted to ex-President Donald Trump, has been summoned by a federal judge in Detroit to show up for a July 6 sanctions hearing regarding the November election.
U.S. District Judge Linda Parker last week ordered Powell and three other attorneys who defended Trump’s voter fraud claims in Michigan to come to the hearing in two weeks, The Hill reports. Also summoned are Greg Rohl, Scott Hagerstrom and Stefanie Junttila.
The hearing results from a professional penalties request by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
Powell and other attorneys sued in November, alleging that President Biden won Michigan through voter fraud, and asked that Trump be declared the winner.
The judge subsequently ruled that the relief being sought “would disenfranchise the votes of the more than 5.5 million Michigan citizens who, with dignity, hope, and a promise of a voice, participated in the 2020 General Election.”
In April, Nessel alleged that Powell and the other lawyers "made statements they knew were misleading in an effort to further their false and destructive narrative."
"As lawyers, fidelity to the law is paramount. These individuals worked to further conspiracy theories in an effort to erode public trust in government and dismantle our systems of democracy. Their actions are inexcusable.”
Powell later shocked some people by saying: "No reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact."
The attorney general seeks to recover about $11,000 in legal fees.
