Gallery: 18 couples embrace the holiday spirit and each other in downtown Detroit

Campus Martius and Cadillac Square Park have a huggy-kissy vibe again, a contrast to last December's less-festive scene when you-know-what closed the rink, carriage rides, vendors' booths and restaurants.

Though plague risks rise anew, holiday traditions pull visitors downtown from city neighborhoods, from around the region and from distant points. Many pose near the 65-foot Norway spruce with 20,000 LED lights, alongside the skating oval and at Insta-ready winter tableaus in Cadillac Lodge.

After a rough pair of years, the towering evergreen, bell-ringers, clopping horses, Winter Market and bright lights are touchstones of the time before. Daily crowds include couples of all ages, enjoying Christmas time in the city, dressed in holiday style. It's a time for recalling past holidays, reflecting on a year gone by, building new memories and walking in a winter wonderland.

Scenes of comfort and joy, posted on Instagram, show Detroit's charm and sentimentality in a season of promise and passion.

We hope those emotions burn brightly for you too as you look for anyone you may know in this gallery of 18 couples.
